Since 1973 Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority has been providing quality affordable housing to the people of Southeast Alaska. We partner with 12 communities, service 823 homes, and offer a variety of housing opportunities for all residents of Southeast Alaska. Initially, THRHA was primarily an Indian housing authority providing services to Native American Housing Self Determination Act (NAHASDA) eligible clients. As part of our current strategic plan we have developed several public housing programs that allow THRHA to offer a wider variety of housing opportunities for all Southeast Alaskans.

THRHA begins 2012 with a new round of Weatherization Training

Training continues on April 2nd so hurry, seats are limited

Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority is continuing 2012 with a new round of Weatherization Training. Those who are wanting to enhance their skills in the construction and remodel industry with techniques on weatherizing homes and retrofitting standards will find themselves benefitting from this course.

What: Basic Weatherization Training – Instructor Marquam George
When: April 2nd thru April 6th 2012 (Basic), May 21st thru 25th, 2012 (Advanced)
Where: Juneau Alaska
Travel: All travel costs on own. Southeast Alaska Tribal members may apply for Travel Assistance.
Trainee Wages: Trainees who successfully complete the training will receive training wages for attendance.

Weatherization Training 2012

Basic Weatherization Training
This five day course is designed to introduce the individual to weatherization job readiness and material installation techniques by the use of both classroom instruction and "hands-on" laboratory experience. Dear Homebuyers and Tenants,

A happy and safe holidays to all! This has been a very busy and it's hard to believe that we're already planning for next year.

I'm proud to report that we have had a very successful year in 2010. We've started building two elderly centers, 17 units in Saxman and the first phase in Yakutat. Our weatherization and LIHEAP programs are in full swing. Our office remodel is done and our new conference center has proved to be very handy.

Federal funding is under attack and it is imperative that we implement new methods for balancing the budget and tightening our belts. Staff are working hard and have raised more than $38 Million in private and public grants. Partnering with a variety of agencies has helped to provide new construction and weatherization crew training, more jobs in rural communities and extend assistance programs.

I currently serve on the NAHASDA Negotiated Rulemaking Committee, an important national committee that reviews and recommends changes to NAHASDA. Along with HUD and 48 selected tribal representatives, we made 98 recommendations to benefit NAHASDA. After a congressional review, the new regulations will become law shortly after the new year. It was a lot of work and very time consuming but essential for Alaska to have good representation during these negotiations.
