Date Posted: 7/26/2004

On July 23rd, 2004 Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority held an open house event to usher in the second phase development completion at the Glacier Village Subdivision here in Juneau Alaska. The event included a carnival for families and the community in general and promoted a number of exciting features including baloons, face painting, prizes and good food which was hosted by the THRHA staff. The event took place from aproximately 1:00am until 2:00pm and was a huge success. "Of all the some 300 hamburgers, 300 hotdogs, 8 cases of soda and more... everything went" says Kathy Hansen, THRHA's administrative manager, "the weather was perfect (boasting clear skies and 72 degree temps) and everything just came together nicely."

The carnival was part of the second year of celebrations on completion of various phases of development at the Glacier Villiage Subdivision. This year's celebration marks the completion of Phase II which includes the second 25-unit developments consisting of 2, 3 & 4 bedroom homes with some that are handicap accessible. The open house held in July of 2003 did not have a children's carnival but was still an exciting event that marked the completion of Phase I. "Considering that this year's open house had our very first carnival ever, things went very, very well! No one got hurt, everyone enjoyed the activities and festivities such as the baloons, face painting, fishing for treasure and even the safety house!" Juneau's Capital City Fire & Rescue was kind enough to bring by their safety house which provides a hands-on education to kids of various ages on fire safety.
