On Monday, January 25, Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority will join area wide business and agencies in PROJECT HOMELESS CONNECT – an event sponsored in part by members of the Juneau Homeless Coalition – designed to count and connect people experiencing homelessness with information and services.
The goal is to offer information and services which include employment, housing, food, legal services, medical, dental, vision, mental health and substance abuse, haircuts, message, foot care and MORE! At the same time data will be collected from the count is critical to planning how to best invest public resources, demonstrating the need for federal funding, raising public awareness about homelessness, identifying the needs of homeless populations, and improving the housing and services necessary to prevent and eliminate homelessness.
THRHA is collecting items to distribute to the homeless. New or gently-used clothing and camping gear can be dropped off at THRHA offices at 5446 Jenkins Drive (near Costco) to be distributed at the Project Connect Homeless Count event on January 25, 2010 at the Centennial Hall.
In the spirit of participation, Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority Staff and Departments are rolling their sleeves up to contribute creative and useful items for making 400 goody bags. The bags will be given to people visiting the THRHA booth at Project Homeless Connect. Participants should have their donated items available Wednesday, January 20 to turn into the coalition so that volunteers will have ample time to compile the bags. The department that brings in the most creative items will receive a catered lunch.
