Juneau, October 17, 2007 –The Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority is pleased to announce that they will be administering the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) previously administered by Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (CCTHITA). LIHEAP is a valuable program that provides financial assistance to tribal members residing in nineteen Southeast Alaska communities who need help meeting the staggering costs of heating fuel for their homes.

CCTHITA President Bill Martin is pleased that the Tlingit & Haida Regional Housing Authority President and CEO Dr. Blake Kazama was able to secure this much needed program.
In an effort to aide in a smooth transition former CCTHITA employee Sandra Cross has transferred over to the Housing Authority to continue administering LIHEAP; with the cold season approaching, it is imperative to have a person that is an “expert” on the rules and regulations of this program.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program applications will be available beginning Thursday, November 1, 2007. Eligibility for the LIHEAP benefit is based on gross income and household size.
Applications may be picked up in Juneau, Alaska at the Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority office located at 5446 Jenkins Drive and at CCTHITA’s office located at 320 W. Willoughby Avenue; they may also be accessed online at www.thrha.org. In addition, applications are available at Tribal Social Service offices located in rural Southeast Alaska villages.
