THRHA is offering a hands-on training program for Weatherization workers who reside in Rural Southeast communities. The program is designed to train unemployed and underemployed rural Alaskans for employment positions in the Weatherization field. Supervisors, carpenters and laborers are needed.
Participants will receive hands–on training on AHFC Weatherization procedures, repair techniques, and proper building material selection. Trainees will be introduced to blower door testing; evaluating air tightness and heat loss; locating moisture and water damage, electrical safety, and operating the AkWarm Weatherization software.
Three sessions will be held in Juneau: February 1-5, March 8-12, and April 12-16.

Federal funding for the program is provided by a grant from the Denali Training Fund that is managed by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development Division of Business Partnerships.
THRHA clients eligible for PNRC-NAHRO 2010 Scholarship Program!PNRC-NAHRO is offering five scholarships to eligible applicants from its members' affordable housing programs in 2010. These scholarships are:
Jesse Epstein
$10,000 for a graduating high school senior attending a 4-Scholarship (1) year college program of study. (awarded to the highest-ranked Challenge College Scholarship applicant as determined by the PNRC-NAHRO Regional Jury.)
Challenge College
Two $4,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors Scholarship (2) attending a 4-year college program of study.
Continuing Education
A $4,000 scholarship awarded to an individual who has been Scholarship (1) out of high school for at least four years and wishes to pursue either a college education or other professional training.
Community College
A $2,000 scholarship awarded to a graduating high school Scholarship (1) senior attending a 2-year community college program of study.

Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority welcomes back Bert Bennett Jr. into our Housing Programs Department. Bert left us in January 2006 to lower peninsula Michigan to pursue his academic goals and experience the east coast. Mr. Bennett is now in charge of our HOAP Program as a Rental Programs Specialist and we believe that he will be a valuable asset to the housing programs with his strengths and experiences from working with us before.
