Elderly Low Income Rental Program (Elderly Low Rent)

What is it?

Since 1986, Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority has offered a Elderly Low Income Rental Program or Low Rent for the Elderly Program to provide affordable rental opportunities for individuals and couples who hold the recognized status of "Senior" in the Southeast Alaska Communities. Having a variety of locations in this program, we offer single bedroom units in Angoon, Craig, Hoonah, Hydaburg, Kake, Klawock and Saxman. Additionally, our goal is to expand these programs into other communities whereever and whenever possible. Our goal is to provide the housing criteria necessary to contribute to elderly well being, personal outlook, self esteem and continuing self sufficiency. "The side effect of providing these series of programs is overwhelming joy... especially with the elderly who hold the pride and wisdom of our century " say Kari Metz, the Rental Program Coordinator for THRHA. "It is essential that the the elderly be extended every benefit of living in America and housing should be a given. They are our heritage afterall ".
