Meet the members...
Ella Bennett, Chairperson
Ella is Tlingit. She is from Xutsnoowú Kwáan, T’leneidi (Dog Salmon) Clan of Angoon and resides in Juneau. Her Tlingit name is Káa oox. She is recently retired from Sealaska Corporation where she worked for 27 years. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Tlingit and Haida Indians of City & Borough of Juneau, delegate for the Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Kootznoowoo, Inc., and 30 years as the secretary for the Church of God. She is serving her third term on the THRHA Board of Commissioners.
Martha Johnson , Chairperson
Martha was born and raised in Ketchikan. Her Tlingit name is Shteek Shun and from Taant′ a Kwáan, Gaanax.ádi (Raven Moiety), Yan Wulihashi Hit (Drifted Ashore House). She is retired from Sealaska Timber Corporation and Ketchikan Indian Community Tribal Council where she was the executive secretary. She is a delegate for the Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and serves on the Enrollment Committee. She also serves on the Health Committee for the Ketchikan Indian Community. She is an active grandparent and a member of St. John’s Episcopalian Church. Martha previously served, 2005 – 08, and was recently appointed to the board to fill a vacancy.
Dennis H. Gray Sr., Secretary/Treasurer
Dennis is Wooshkeetaan Tóoś Déx′I Hit, Eagle/Shark Backbone House of Hoonah. His Tlingit name is Kaa-ji-nei-yi. He is a State of Alaska Certified Commercial Driver’s License Instructor for the Tlingit and Haida Vocational Technical Resource Center. He was a log truck driver and a commercial fisherman. He currently serves on the Hoonah Indian Association Board, a delegate for Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, and a life-time member of the Alaska Native Brotherhood. This is Dennis’s first term on the THRHA Board of Commissioners.
Barbara Fields , Commissioner
Barbara is Haida from the Eagle/Frog Koos’ga-Dee Clan. She is named after her great-grandmother Laguni. She has recently returned to live in Klawock where she was born and raised. She is the Tribal Administrator for the Craig Community Association and a Vice President of the Executive Council of the Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. She is currently serving her first term on the THRHA Board of Commissioners.
Joe Williams , Commissioner
Joe is a Tlingit from Saxman, where he was born and raised. His Tlingit name is Kaxesdxé. He owns and operates Where the Eagle Walks, a walking-tour company in Ketchikan. Joe served as Tribal President of Saxman for 12 years and was also the Mayor of the Ketchikan Borough and the City of Saxman. This is Joe’s first term on the THRHA Board of Commissioners.
